I am Lola Kakes, a HR Generalist for 30+ years. I have worked in Corporate America as an HR Generalist and have owned my own business for the past 10 years. I work mainly with small businesses (under 100 employees) to assist them in finding, developing, maintaining, and retaining their employee base. My favorite 30 second elevator speech is, “If you don’t own a circus you shouldn’t be hiring clowns.” The problem is many companies hire in haste and fire at leisure and when they hire find out later they have hired clowns – not star performers.I am a strong advocate for the small business entrepreneur and for solid HR practices. I believe that good HR systems will help the small business grow and prosper. I have done presentations for the Arizona Small Business Association, NAWBO - the National Association of Women Business Owners (Tucson Chapter), the Small Business Development Center, and other local businesses. These presentations include, “The Art of Hiring Smart”, “You and Employment Law”, “HR 101”, and many others. I was a member of the Tucson City Small Business Commission and the Immediate Past President of NAWBO Tucson, the NAWBO National Member of the Year for 2007, the Chair of the Presidents Assembly for NAWBO, a past National Board Member and an active member of Public Policy for NAWBO. I support the continuing growth and development of small businesses.
